R&D Intern Blogs
[23.7.2010]Hi All!
I'm Duncan and I'm five weeks into my one year internship with P&G at the Newcastle Technical Centre. I'm from Scotland and just finished 3rd year at the University of Edinburgh studying Chemical Physics. The first 5 weeks have flown by and so far I've had a fantastic time working for P&G.
The first two weeks were mainly training and getting to know the team. P&G made it really easy to settle in to work by doings things like arranging a bus to pick us up and drop us off from work for the first few days. On the night before we started we were taken to a bar and had a chance to meet all the other interns and some employees who make up the mentor pool. The mentor pool is made up of employees who have recently been hired and can help with any questions you have.
In the third week I started work on my project, there is a lot of responsibility given straight away and you are definitely treated more as an employee rather than an intern. There were also events like the champagne celebration where there was a celebration for the past years work, this involved drinking champagne and eating strawberries and chocolate.
In the past two weeks we had a cooking event where all the interns prepared our own Spanish themed dinner. Surprisingly the food tasted quite good! It also saw the start of the 'Get Active' campaign where everyone was encouraged to write down a pledge to improve their health. As well as this there are sporting events being run ranging from a 5 a side football tournament to a brain/safari challenge. It's a great way to get to know some of the other employees and get fit at the same time.
As for outside work, Newcastle is a great city to live in. There's so much to do that every weekend as been fully packed.
That's all for now, I'll keep you posted.
Cheers
Duncan
