[21.12.2007]Hi! Here I am again!
This week was a week of partying a lot and still working hard because I am approaching the end of my project and we had many Christmas related activities.
Last week I received new data from our customer for further data analysis. Also I defined the problem P&G is facing; right now I am trying to find a model to implement this in P&G and try to improve the current situation. Because one important objective was to find and define the problem, but another important objective was to find improvement areas and recommend some specific changes. Also I started to write my report because this is an important deliverable for the University.
On Wednesday we had a big party of my department which is organized twice a year. At first we attended several presentations and had a diner. The night ended traditionally with the Star Academy III. Every section needed to perform and sing a song which they prepared in advance. Also some sections wrote their own text, there was a breakdance act and so on! So I really had a good time! Yesterday there was a Christmas lunch organized by P&G and I also went to the new hires Christmas drink and diner after work. It was very cool because a lot of people from different parts of the company showed up. Even after the dinner we went to a pub for one or two more drinks! Next week I am planning to go back to The Netherlands and celebrate Christmas there. See you in 2008!
Ciao Yannick.
[10.12.2007]Hi!
Last blog feels like a couple of days ago, as time flies in Brussels! Last two weeks I joined the P&G Masterclass in Belgium and the Netherlands. We had a dinner and two great nights at Antwerp and Rotterdam. Especially to me, it was very nice to meet also colleagues and other interns from the Netherlands. But of course, these two weeks were not only about having dinner and going out!
Two weeks ago I finished the first part of my assignment. This part was about mapping all product and information flows between P&G and its customer. Furthermore I analyzed and visualized all shipments between P&G and this customer. I finished this week with a presentation to my supervisor from the university and my managers from P&G. Based on this general orientation and understanding of current situation, I started to define and quantify the problem my assignment is about. This will be the critical part of my assignment. Finding answers on questions like, “do we really have a problem? And, how is big is this problem? And, what are key drivers to this problem?
Also, I visited the customer a couple of times to understand their order behaviour. It was really fun and I learned a lot about the processes and information systems. At this moment I have enough data to start my final analysis. I am planning to end this part by the end of December. So, still a lot of work to do in the next weeks!
See you next week!
Yannick.
[23.11.2007]Hi everybody!
First of all, a short introduction. I am currently studying Industrial Engineering and Management Science in Eindhoven. This internship forms a part of my Bachelor study and in February 2008 I planned to start my Master in Eindhoven. Last year I worked one year in the national board of a Dutch Foundation (Integrand) which arranges internships and work placements for academic students. During this year I learned a lot about P&G and decided to apply for an internship to finish my Bachelor thesis.
After my application it became clear there was an assignment in Brussels meeting my interests and demands of the University. So before I started I was familiar and happy with the general objectives and content of my assignment. Also P&G arranged a place to stay in Brussels during my internship. It is really fun to live in a hotel in the centre of Brussels, together with all interns!
During my internship I am supported by a personal coach and my two managers. After just one week, it became clear to me, that my assignment has a great impact on my department and the whole P&G Supply Chain. I was also glad to see during my on boarding period that all colleagues were very willing to help me understand P&G and its processes. I planned a lot interviews and was able to attend some training about the systems and software P&G uses internally. Because my assignment also has an external part, I visited the customer a couple of times to understand their business and supply chain.
My assignment has to do with an analysis of the order pattern of a P&G customer. At first I need to map and understand the current situation, because for example all product and information flows are quite complex. Furthermore I will analyse the current order pattern and try to find improvement opportunities and recommendations for both P&G and its customer.
So that it for this moment, see you next week!
Ciao Yannick.
