Corporate Function (CF) Human Safety Data / Software Engineer

This new position has been created to further develop digital innovation capability within Human Safety (HS) working in partnership with data scientists/engineers, chemists, and toxicologists.The purpose of this position is to support safety assessment work/approaches and research projects by providing foundational programming support and expertise across a range of computational projects.The successful candidate will be an integral member of Chemical Review and Evaluation Group (CREG) within P&G’s Human Safety (HS) organization.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of P&G’s Corporate Functions Global Product Stewardship, Human Safety organization.  Initial responsibilities include:

Designing and writing computer programs and developing databases/tools across numerous projects.  Potential computational projects include:

  • Chemical structural tool development in Python (RDKit) – object oriented
  • Database programming for new and existing systems
  • Data scraping and data wrangling   
  • Planning and implementing data integration and data migration activities
  • Partnering with team to develop dashboards to enable more data-driven approaches Pipeline Pilot programming for automation 
  • Structuring unstructured data
  • Data analysis workflow development and processing

Active team membership on the CREG Team and the Computational Working Group and future membership on the Informatics Capability Team and CREG Systems and Work Processes (SWP) Team.


BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science or similar fields.  Candidate should have familiarity with chemistry and computational approaches.   The candidate must have strong programming skills including Python, familiarity with at least one of the cloud offerings (AWS, Azure or GCP), relational database skills and API experience. Other helpful skills include algorithm development, NoSQL skills and web app development.  The following skill levels are required for this position:

Python: intermediate to advanced

R: basic to intermediate

REST-API: intermediate

SQL: basic to intermediate

Data modeling: basic to intermediate

Web app technology (e.g., Flask): basic to intermediate

Version control (e.g., GIT and GitHub): basic to intermediate

Chemistry: basic

Background/experience with other tools such as MS Excel and Pipeline Pilot is preferred.    The candidate must also have strong attention to detail.

Strong communication skills.  Must possess and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and be capable of operating inclusively and effectively in a diverse environment across levels, cultures, regions/geographies, backgrounds, and disciplines.  The successful candidate will be working with colleagues across CF, sectors and geographies.  The candidate must be able to convey positions clearly and explain complex technical issues in a manner suitable to a variety of customers.   The candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills and have the confidence to both understand the business and make critical decisions in a scientifically robust manner.

Strong collaboration skills.  Must collaborate effectively and build strong relationships with a variety of partners, internal and external.   Individual should be a self-starter and able to work independently, yet also effectively collaborate and work with teams and colleagues.

Strong priority setting and ability to manage multiple competing and or shifting business priorities.  Must have the ability to adapt to changing priorities, while continuing to manage multiple projects according to business needs.  Must be a strong implementer.
