Design Director (Japan/ Korea Market)

The primary role of the Design Director, Japan/Korea Hair Care is to support the ongoing evolution of our brands with elevated design and visuals with executional excellence. We are looking for a highly creative, proactive, and detail-obsessed design leader with solid design, typography and art direction skills; someone that is eager to take on challenges, introduce fresh ideas, and implement innovative approaches!

You will work both independently and collaboratively, as well as manage and encourage others to deliver across multiple touch points including branding, campaigns, digital, & print while working collaboratively with partners across Creative, Marketing, Consumer Insights, Sales, and external agencies!

Our in-house Creative team is involved in a wide range of work— from package design and art direction, to retail and digital design, as well as production of key deliverables.

This is a hands-on design & execution role, and will report into our Senior Design Director

Key responsibilities

  • Develop in partnership with the team innovative concepts across print and digital in line with campaign needs.
  • Lead and build design solutions, partnering with internal and external Creative teams
  • Projects include (but not limited to) innovative key visual concepts & design, social asset concepts & design, digital design, package design, and retail merchandising to help drive overall brand strategy.
  • Lead assigned projects to ensure goals delivered are timely and on budget – while maintaining strong communication with key partners along the way.
  • Review projects and artwork before release to vendors to ensure accuracy.
  • Approve samples from vendors, ensuring accuracy of artwork, color, materials and finishes.
  • Prepare renderings & presentation decks to convey concept and design intent.
  • Photo, video & social on-set (or remote) art direction.
  • Management of retouching end-to-end with external partners.
  • Partner with the internal multi-functional teams to manage the end to end design process from concept to implementation
  • Attend meetings, present concepts and report on status of current projects to Sr. Director, Design and broader cross-functional team.

  • A Bachelor degree or equivalent in Graphic Design, Visual Communication or a similar field
  • 8—15 years agency/design studio/in-house experience in graphic design, art direction, digital design, and package design within the beauty industry.
  • Experience leading a team and external agency partners.
  • Must be a connoisseur of typography & graphic design with a love for latest trends and culture.
  • Strong understanding in basic print production management is a plus
  • An online portfolio demonstrating a strong knowledge of design, visuals, typography, and color.
  • Sophisticated, visual design aesthetic.
  • Expert level on Mac platform; Illustrator, Photoshop, In-Design, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and 3-D drawing programs are a plus.
  • Ability to quickly turn around detailed comps in an iterative environment.
  • Unwavering attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to problem solve and mitigate challenges ahead of due dates.
  • Consistently deliver excellence in the work and encourage team members.
  • Strategic and thoughtful in approach to design and branding.
  • Strong project management and organization skills.
  • Proficiency in Japanese language a plus.
