P&G awarded German Sustainability Prize 2009 in the category “Germany’s most sustainable Research & Development”
Last Friday (November 6, 2009), P&G was presented with the German Sustainability Prize for “Germany’s most sustainable Research & Development 2009” in Düsseldorf. The prize is awarded to companies that combine business efficiency with ecological and social responsibility, by the Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e. V. (German Sustainability Prize) foundation, which has the patronage of German Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel,
Dr. Helen Neville, R&D General Manager, German Innovation Campus, accepted the award on behalf of P&G at the celebration gala “We are very proud being awarded the German Sustainability Prize 2009. This is not only a recognition of P&G’s sustainability strategy, but also of the great work delivered by the ca. 1.000 employees at the three German P&G R&D sites.“
According to Pirjo Väliaho, Vice President DACH MDO: “We are very pleased to receive this recognition, as sustainability is a key component of P&G’s corporate culture. For many years, our efforts have been focused on the three fundamental aspects of sustainability: social, environmental and economic issues.”
Prof. Dr. Marina Franke, Manager Global Sustainability, explained: “The Company’s sustainable business strategy is based on the objectives of the United Nations for the twenty-first century : water quality, health, and hygiene. P&G is committed to realizing these objectives by means of clear guidelines, specific measures, and measurable actions. Based on five central strategies, we integrate sustainability into our products, packaging, and production processes.”
The jury also rewarded P&G’s sustainability efforts with a nomination in the category “Germany’s most sustainable production 2009.”
The focus of the German Sustainability Prize, now in its second year, is on efficient management and sustainability as an integral part of brand building. The winners are determined by a high-level jury of experts that includes Dr. Klaus Töpfer, the former Executive Director of the UN Environmental Program and ex-German Federal Minister for the Environment.
