Do you have a passion for solving tough technical challenges? Are you energized by the opportunity to translate insights into actions through new and improved product design and technology innovations that deliver meaningful consumer benefits and sustained business results? We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Scientist candidate with a passion for complex technologies with a creative mindset and sound, methodical good-science approach to join the Grooming R&D Blades Design & Development and Process Development organization, located in Boston, MA.

Blade edge development is a critical part of sustaining a competitive advantage for Gillette grooming products. Based on the specific assignment, the role could span across multiple areas including a focus on conceiving, inventing, and demonstrating novel blade edge designs; understanding fundamental mechanisms; integration of new blade edge designs within a shaving system; new material and process invention; prototyping at various scales to enable new innovative blade edges; analytical method development; and scalable process development and manufacturing implementation. The selected candidate will design and conduct fundamental research by leveraging theory, experimentation, and practical application in product design, consumer understanding, or process development to deliver superior benefits in our consumer shaving products within major brands like Gillette and Venus. The candidate will work with state of the art technologies and equipment within a multi-discipline R&D team. Depending on the specific assignment, the scientist will work in close collaboration across multi- functional teams (e.g. Consumer Research, Analytical Science, Equipment Engineering, QA, Global Manufacturing sites, and other Product Design groups).

  • A PhD in Material Science preferred (or related experience with Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Analytical Chemistry background)
  • Experience in material and process development, advanced coating fabrication (e.g., PVD coating systems, Nano Coating technologies), ideally with a working knowledge of advanced material analytical capabilities (e.g. SEM, TEM, XPS, FTIR, etc)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking and ability to use data to connect multiple ideas, develop solutions and influence technical direction on projects.
  • Passionate about hands-on experimental work and demonstrated track record of leading, building and testing technical hypothesis, translating data into actionable insights and models
  • Strong ownership & self-leadership skills to understand the technical problem to be solved, collaborate with the project team for test method development and technology development
  • Strong collaboration skills with people inside and outside of P&G’s Analytical disciplines, and external partners (suppliers, universities, national labs, instrument vendors, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Strong understanding of data science, statistics, and modeling techniques
  • Strong innovation, a curious mindset and passion for discovering new and creative solutions
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environments

Just So You Know:

Pay Range: $128-$140K

Compensation for roles at P&G varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience. At P&G compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Total Rewards at P&G include salary + bonus (if applicable) + benefits.
