Description

The key objective of this project is to develop methods and technical models to measure the interaction of small molecules with cell receptors, specifically GPCRs and TRPs. The successful candidate will have skills in cell biology, receptor biology, organic chemistry, and biochemistry and will be pursuing a doctoral degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis in experimental work on receptor-ligand interactions. The specific project deliverables include:


• Development of a receptor-based assay for quantifying small molecule/receptor interactions.
• Development and experimental validation of a mechanistic technical model for
the interactions of specific small molecules with GCPRs and/or TRPs.
• Application of the experimental methodology and mechanistic model to understanding the impact of complex mixtures on competitive binding and multi-receptor interactions.

Key Priorities, Deliverables, or Outcomes of This Position:

1) Development of a receptor-based assay for quantifying small molecule/receptor interactions.

2) Development and experimental validation of a mechanistic technical model for the interactions of specific small molecules with GCPRs and/or TRPs.

3) Application of the experimental methodology and mechanistic model to understanding the impact of complex mixtures on competitive binding and multi-receptor interactions.


Skills Developed:

1) Development of fundamental and applied skills in cell biology, receptor biology, and receptor/ligand interactions.

2) Consumer product formulation understanding and design

3) Application of technical and scientific skills in an industrial setting
