P&G Chemical (PGC) is a multi-billion-dollar business that produces Oleochemicals for most of the top P&G brands. We are also one of the top leaders in the industry and sell to global merchant market working out of Cincinnati, Geneva and Singapore. More importantly, we are one of the few pure chemical engineering technology categories in P&G, with one joint venture chemical plant, built in 1990’s in Kuantan, Malaysia for PGC Eurasia. To maintain and grow profitability, PGC has defined technical innovation as one of key OGSM strategy aiming to transform Kuantan to be a modem technology with cost advantage. PGC Technical community/Engineering will play a big role in this innovation journey to lead the innovation execution including partner with R&D on technology development/front end engineering study and with Kuantan plant on capital funding, engineering design, construction and start-up.

  • You will report to a senior leader within the P&G Chemical (PGC) organization.

Responsibilities Of The Role

1. Capital Development and Management

  • The candidate will own defining capital requirement associated with technical innovation/projects. Developing cost estimates for effective investment decisions, project cost control, and capital risk analyst. This candidate will work closely with PGC R&D/IDL/SNO and also Kuantan plant through the entire SIMPL process.
  • Participate in technical innovation delivery as one of team member for capital projects

2. Process Engineering Technical Support

  • The candidate will work closely with PGC Eurasia R&D and Global PGC Process Engineer to evaluate strategy technology provider and lead engineering feasibility grade scope and cost development for financial sensitivity analysis during study request till PE.
  • Lead engineering best value option analysis and drive best value option for innovation
  • Provide on-going support to FPG site on process equipment improvement.

3. Innovation Delivery

  • Support initiatives (in collaboration with R&D/Kuantan Plant), using Technical readiness roadmap, Engineering Work Process and Global Start-Up management tools on Front End Engineering Study, Detailed Design, Construction and start-up teams to deliver required results.

4. Sustainability  

  • Collaboration with Global sustainability owner, R&D and Kuantan plant to define sustainability idea/project to meet sustainability goal.
  • Work with Kuantan plant to develop sustainability project master plan and drive execution.

5. Capability

  • Use technical mastery to improve the capability of plant experts and practitioners in PGC

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Chemical Engineering Technical Mastery - experience of Engineering, R&D/MPD or Operation of a P&G Chemicals, surfactant making and formulated product making.
  • A strong background in Chemical Engineering is required. 
  • Surfactant & PGC plants utilize multiple chemical engineering unit operations, requiring knowledge of reaction kinetics, physical properties, and unit operation modeling & design. Experience in oleochemicals and/or petroleum refining and process modeling, such as ASPEN, HTRI,CFD, IDEAS, Excel based models, is a plus.
  • Leadership - Ability to engage and enable the organization to develop best value option and deliver project capital target/saving. Develop strategies and plans to maximize the capital spending, gain alignment to saving plans and ensure plant resources are available to deliver them. Ability to work independently.
  • Collaboration - Ability to build a strong link of mutual inter-dependence with multiple functions: R&D, Engineering Suppliers, IDL/SNO and Plant operation etc.
  • Comfortable to travel within region or global – mostly to Malaysia, Kuantan plant. Estimated 25% travel.
