Newcastle Innovation Centre is the home of R&D for P&G’s Dry Laundry business. The Modelling & Simulation (M&S) group at Newcastle Innovation Centre is offering a 12-month Postdoctoral placement starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong technical background and a passion for applying science to real-world cases to prove their capabilities!

In this role the candidate will:

Apply Discrete Element Method (DEM) software tools to answer questions related to our products and processes.

Develop and maintain the infrastructure for DEM M&S at P&G.

Work with software vendors to develop and advance our DEM modelling capability as needed.

Support, develop and grow the DEM M&S community in P&G.

Demonstrate ownership for their projects, driving the development and application of the capability in this area.

Have the opportunity to present their work to Senior Management and work within professional and entrepreneurial multi-functional teams in one of the company's major business categories

After the first year, there will be the possibility to renew the position or to make it permanent if both sides agree.


Qualifications

Requirements (skills / experiences) for the role:

Minimum requirements:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering and math subjects.
  • A PhD thesis focused on particle-based simulations (e.g. DEM, Molecular Dynamics, etc.).

Desirable requirements:

  • A PhD thesis focused on DEM Modeling and Simulation.
  • Proven knowledge (through publications, presentations or reports) of how to set up, calibrate and validate DEM models to solve business problems.
  • Solid Understanding of LIGGGHTS/Aspherix and/or commercial DEM software.
  • Strong Knowledge of coupled CFD-DEM methods and tools.
